Airosa Brothers versus the Stone, Woods
& Cook "Swindler B"
Here's a couple that you won't find too
many photos of. In the near lane is Les Barath's "Freedom
Fighter" AA/MSP Simca. That's a car I used to love to watch
'cause it hauled ass and looked cool too! In the far lane is the
"Goldfinger Hawaiian Style" AWB '64 Plymouth.
Greer and Barber's very
sanitary Willys Gasser. This was one of my favorites.
Here's the Fiberglass Trends
"Instant Motion" Cheetah running A/MSP. The Cheetah, for
those who don't remember, was built in street and race versions by Bill
Thomas' Race Cars as a "Cobra Killer".
Here's one I don't
remember. The Corvette was running B/Gas. The photos are labeled
as "Christopher". Anyone have any more information on
this car?
Thanks to Mike Ditty for the following
information:
"I came across this Corvette photo on your
website and the caption said you were looking for info. It's labeled
Christopher, but it's actually Larry Christopherson from Arizona. His next
car was a Nova FC that initially was painted to match the Vette."
The "Traveler" from Altizer,
Finders & Kibler. This was one screaming smallblock Chevy
powered A/GS car.
Keith Ferrell's very cool
"Dogcatcher" 33 Willy Panel in what was probably it's A/Gas
trim.
Fred Hurst's Barracuda A/G car.
Very clean and excellent running late model gasser.
Hamberis & Mitchell. The late
Mike "The World's Fastest Hippie" Mitchell throws out the
anchor on the big end at Pomona.
I don't remember who ran the J&S
Speed Center car, but I remember it being a runner.
Lufkin's "X" Corvette set
records at Bonneville as well as the drag strip.
The Meyer & Cluff Austin
pickup out of Arizona was a potent little runner.
Kinda' hard to add much
here..."Ohio George" Montgomery.
Another old favorite...the
Pierce Trucking chopped Thames was a Lions regular who regularly trucked
away with the A/Gas class wins.
Northern California's Ron Rinauro ran
the "Super Fox" 33 Willys in A/GS.
An unidentified, pretty little B/SR
plays in front of a packed house at the Winternationals back when there
were stands on only one side of the track.
A variety of Stone, Woods
& Cook shots including races with Don Gay and Big John Mazmanian.
