Although not universally
accepted as such, for me, the FIRST Funnycar was Chrisman's 64 Comet
sponsored by Helen Sach's and Sons Mercury. If I remember
correctly, the blown, nitro-burning beastie initially ran in the
10's. Seems pretty slow now, but it was a pretty impressive start
to an era.
Steve Bovan in the Blair's Speed Shop
sponsored, injected 396 powered Chevy II
Charlie Allen's "Atlantic Dodge
Flyer" was a strong entry. This was not a "factory"
AWB car.
Snodgrass & Mankhen's
"Psycho" Mustang was an Altered chassis with a Mustang body
attached. Hmmm...have we come full circle? Today, many of
the Alky Funnycars also have Altered bodies to use for special event
races.
