~ Byron's Gasser Madness ~
~ Eric Rath's 52 Chevy ~

About 6 years ago I got the gasser bug! Only 22 at the time in 1997 I went out west to Idaho to get a new 2dr body to replace the rotted out 4dr that I bought from a friend right out of high school. That was going to be a 50's custom, to common and not fast enough. I already had the frame from the 4dr sandblasted and painted so I used it for the gasser. Removing the already restored front and rear suspension and drivetrain. With the help of Alan Teel of the Choppers Hot Rod Assoc. here in Cleveland, Ohio I put together a Ford 9in rear axle, and a 4in drop axle from Speedway Motors. The steering box is a rear steer Nova box with a Vega pitman arm tierods from speedway. The dropped steering arms are from Butches Rod Shop. Everything works perfectly! The engine is a .060 over 454 (468 now) with a TH 400 trans. The interior is my next thing to do to the car it does have an 8 pt. roll bar done by Bruce Mattlin (Cleveland) and the old Moon "Big Foot" gas pedal. The seats are Jazz low back plastic racing seats. The wheels are E-T II up front the rears are unidentified 15x10 with a 31x12.50x15 dot slick. I drive the car on the street also! Some day I will paint the car Indigo blue and use the paint scheme that friend Gene Schwartz used on his car. Which he is also building a replica of his car that can be seen by Mike Lehet. His car will be out this summer '03. So far on the third outing my car has gone 11.50 @115mph still learning to drive it what a hand full!! What fun!! It will be at the gasser meet this year also. Thanks Eric Rath |
