Hi Byron,
I was wondering if you could do me a favor? Possibly update my 54
Chevy gasser in your visitor's rides? Could you add these 3 new
photos, which were taken last year at the Halloween Drags at
Firebird Raceway in Boise, ID. We had a GREAT time there.
I've campaigned this car quite a bit in the last 4 years that I've
had it on the road. Some of the tracks I have frequented are
Woodburn Dragstrip and Coos Bay Dragstrip in Oregon, Bremerton
Dragstrip in Washington, and Firebird Raceway in Idaho, to name a
few.
Since those early pictures, I have pulled the 396 and put in a
ZZ502, which got me into the 11's. My best time so far is 11.62 at
117 mph.
I also got rid of the Hoosier tires in back, as they wanted to go
out of round at about 100 mph. A strange experience driving out your
passenger window and then back over to the driver's window! I
settled on Mickey Thompson slicks.
She consistently pulls the front end off the ground, 6" to a foot.
And it's one of the most reliable cars I own. I drive it on the
streets regularly when the weather permits. And everything in the
car works. Heater, windshield wipers, backup lights -- a true dual
purpose race car! I have also taken it to a number of car shows and
so far have won Best in Class, and believe it or not,
at the Drag Races in Bremerton, WA she received a trophy for Best
Nostaligic Dragster at that race, much to the chagrine of some
locals.
I have won my share of races with her, too. And I've even picked up
a perfect light along the way -- a .000 at a race in Washington.
Nothing better than to have a veteran racer at the end of a track
smile and give you the thumbs up when you beat him!
Thanks again for the excellent site, Byron. You are always
bookmarked on my desktop.
Sincerely,
David A. Gilcrease, aka Heckler
