Sometimes they don't stay unknown!  I received the following email on 1 Oct 2003.

The photo of Jack Merkel vs. unknown Willys pick-up at 1967 Indy Nats.
The unknown gasser was called THE CURTAIN DROPPER and was owned by Billy
Maddox of  Columbus, Ohio.     He was a member of the TROTTERS HOT ROD CLUB. The car was driven by Charlie Bryant and I was a member of the crew that year.  Billy built the car when he was 17 years old . I'm happy to say he still owns the car and it's fully restored.
Billie is now 67 years old.
      Thanks Ed Sessley

Thank you, Ed.

Unknown CC/G

Well, it isn't unknown any more!  As of 11 April 2002, Mike Lehet has identified it as Dennis Furmanchek's car.  Dennis was runner-up to Bill Lindner in CC/GS this year.  Here's what Mike wrote:

Byron, I was going through your web site that Monty Warner has. The very last photo which is marked unknown is indeed Dennis Furmanchek's Willys. Please excuse my memory as I thought at the time the lettering was on the car but it was the following year. If you notice in the photo the Hilborn 2 port injectors on top of the 4-71 blower, this was Joe and Tom Hrudka's de-stroked 233 cu. in. motor. Something else that might be of interest, that motor was at one time in a C or B dragster owned Chuck Starkey from Westlake, Ohio. Mike Lehet

You can find out more about that race here.  Thanks again Mike.
