Received 7 Feb 05: Love your
site .I just wanted to let you know who the unknown Willys is in the the
pictures by Monty Warner of the 66 Indy National Dave Rudy vs. Unknown
Willys. The unknown Willys is the See eyes Gone car owned by
Gerald Nix and David Green. I own the Car and have met with Gerald
Nix. He gave me all these great pictures and history of the car. We are
starting restoration on this car and plan on restoring back to how it was
raced in the 60's.This car won the B gas class race in 1965 @ the Nascar
Nationals.I have attached some pictures and articles Gerald Nix give to
me. He told me he had David Green (the Father of the Green boys that
race in NASCAR) Drive professionally for him and owned the car for a year
down in Florida. I would love to see my pictures on you site. I will
send them to you in a separate Email. Thanks Mike Frank |

First of all I'd like to commend you on your
website, keep doing what your doing, nostalgia racing keeps the memory,
& the legend of these great race cars & the individuals who made it
happen alive.
The car racing Mr. Hurst is indeed the
legendary Powell's Service Center sponsored "Golden Angel" from
Louisville, Ky. I would like to set the record straight, concerning the
common type "O" in reference to the drivers name which haunted him in
news, Magazine, and National dragster clips for his entire racing career
which spanned over a decade and a half. This car was owned at the time
by Ed Payne, and my father Henry Putman drove and was primary wrench on
the car.
It was a popular Midwestern Match Race car
built by Mr. Putman and a friend and later sold to Ed. It was runner-up
at 1963 U.S. Nationals in A/Gas, and Class & Eliminator winner 1964
Winter Nats. Daytona Bch, Fla. Mr. Bill Caughron of Louisville, KY has
recently built an outstanding nostalgia replica of this hard charging
"Gasser".
Sincerely Gary Putman
Thanks Gary.
Love to get good info on these cars!
