Robie Ford S.O.H.C. '66 Fairlane: I originally started out to build a replica of the "Prestone Silencer", a New York based all-fiberglass Fairlane that was initially intended to be Phil Bonner's 1966 'FX mount. Bonner bailed out before the car was even half built and the shell was trucked north to New York where it's completion as the Prestone Silencer was made. But I couldn't find decent color images of the Silencer during assembly to get details so I broke off and turned it into a ficticious match racer. The gold and blue paint is borrowed from Tom Grove's stretch-nose '66 Mustang, the elongated rear wheel opening is borrowed from the red Don Nicholson / Pete Gates '65 Comet Cyclone and the Robie Ford markings are in tribute to Robie Ford, an actual Ford dealer that specialized in high performance Fords. They even campaigned a 1966 427 (wedge) Fairlane in A/Stock. The model features a poised suspension to replicate a hard launch as the driver hammers the throttle on the nitro-injected 480-cube 'Cammer.
