~ March Meet 2002 ~

~ Photos by Tim Hanaseth ~

Since I was unable to attend the March Meet, I asked Tim Hanaseth to take a few photos for Gasser Madness.  I say he did a great job!  Thank you, Tim.  You can reach Tim by email.

Before anyone asks, by the way, the numbers in the captions below are straight off of the GoodGuys website.

As usual, click on the thumbnail for a larger photo

AA/ Gassers
Although he got caught taking a nap at the light in round 1, Howard Anderson drove around a pedaling Dale Boomgaarden in the Mallicoat Brothers' Barracuda to save the run, only to go out in round 2 when he was beaten by eventual class winner, Gary Reinero.
Tim Burns failed to qualify in his first outing with his new BAE Hemi, but once he gets the chassis ironed out...look out!
Mike Leonard's Chevelle took out Steve Woods' Prefect in round 1, Steve Wood's Studebaker in round 2, only to fall to Gary Reinero's Austin in a close final.

ALthough he left Howard at the line in round 1, Dale Boomgaarden, in the Mallicoat Brother's Barracuda, got loose in the middle of the track, allowing Howard to drive around him for the win.

Low qualifier, Ron Nunes, had problems in round 1 and fell to Gary Reinero's Austin.

Though only qualified in mid-field (5th), when it was all over on Sunday Evening, Gary Reinero was the last one standing as the winner in the AA/Gas class after taking out Ron Nunes, Howard Anderson, and Mike Leonard.  Congratulations, Gary.
Rich Roberts had some problems and was unable to qualify his 33 Willys.

After taking out Chuck Moore in round 1, Steve Wood fell to Mike Leonard in round 2 by .073 seconds after leaving him by .058 at the line.  Close race!

Number 2 qualifier, Steve Woods, cut a .217 light (that's RED, folks) in round 1 against Mike Leonard.

A/Gassers

Qualified 5th, Chris Beanes' cool Henry J was taken out in round 1 by the #1 qualifier, Steve Castelli.
Though qualified #1, Steve Castelli got "driven around" in the final with Mark Mahood.
Don Chemello had some problems with his recently painted Chevy II and failed to make the field.  Car looks good, Don.
Rich Facciano's absolutely gorgeous Ford was taken out in round 1 by eventual winner, Mark Mahood.  Can you believe that this car runs in the 7's...with those aerodynamics!  Good work, Rich.

Although he only qualified 4th, Mark Mahood drove around Steve Castelli for the win in the final.  Congratulations, Mark.

"Speedy Bob" Nevins ran well, with an 8.019 but had problems holding it on the line and was disqualified.  Hey Bob...at least the car didn't "lay down"!  :^)

After taking out Butch Ranson in round 1, John Overholser suffered a similar fate in round 2 at the hands of Steve Castelli.
Although he qualified #2, Jim Pace had problems in the second round and went down in favor of Mark Mahood's storming Camaro.

When Sean Renteria couldn't make the call,

Butch Ranson's beautiful 46 Ford was the alternate.  He went out in the first round, however, to  John Overholser's 56 Chevy.

Here's an A/Gasser that I'm unfamiliar with.  Anyone have a name to go with the car?

B/Gassers

This guy is TOUGH!  Kevin Riley, the eventual winner in B/Gas had reaction times of .430, .434, and .423.  Zowie!
A nice looking, but unknown to me, B/Gasser.  Anyone have a name to go with this car?
C/Gassers
From the Goodguys results page, it looks like Clay Bentson broke at the line in the final against Mario Braga.

A .034 difference in reaction times is what it took for Jim Ferren to lose to Chris Zynda in round 1 even though he turned a 9.611 to Zynda's 9.640.  If my math is right, Jim was only .005 behind at the finish!
Chris Zynda's very cool 49 Chevy pickup was low qualifier in the C/Gas class with a 9.60 flat but was taken out in round 2 by Clay Bentson's Thames.
I don't know who's C/Gasser this is, but...NICE LAUNCH!

Not sure what class the Batto Crosley runs in (Nostalgia Eliminator, maybe?) but I do love it!
