~ Byron's Gasser Madness! ~

~ Photos by Brett Mathis ~

Well, I did it to Brett again!  He sent these pictures to me about a year ago!  Here they are.  Thanks Brett...and sorry again for taking so long to get them posted.
Here's another set of pix from Brett taken at Wentzville Nostalgia Drags in St. Louis last year.  The strip is now relegated to history after being torn down last year.
WOW, talk about cool. its been sooooooo long since i e-mailed you these photos that i forgot all about them! i feel i should give you a few more since that was just a hint of that is in the St.Louis area. First off thank you very much, its neat seeing my name on your fabulous website! I am going to enclose a few more, and a little info on one of the gassers. The orange 33 Willys panel has been around St.Louis since i was little, and i am now 22. I have talked to the owner many times and he tells me its the original Mr.Gasket 33 Willys panel. He is a pretty cool guy, but seems reluctant to change it back to its straight axle glory from its past. The car I think is a bit dated now, and its starting to show its age. Now the Backwards GTO isn't a gasser, but it still in its original 60's form. The car really hurts your eyes when you look at it, its weird. The Big Block Pontiac is mounted in the center of the car, the rear tires are actually now in the front, front tires are now the rear. Door are suicide style, hell the windshield wipers are on the rear window! The owner of this says it has been around many many years. The promod style Henry J is just plain awesome! I haven't seen it in nearly a year now, and have never seen it make a pass on the dragstrip as well. Last time I saw it it had a dragster style rear wing and a big block Chevy that has been push wayyyyyy back into the firewall. I think it has a 392 style hemi now, but not sure. The owner Bill Biermann has built many wild creations, but this one is my favorite. I love it when it pulls into the car cruise, it makes such an awesome noise! The 37 Chevy has a STRAIGHT 6!! it is fully tubbed and the straight 6 has a Monster turbo on it. I haven't seen this car in a year or so either, and i haven't seen it run at the dragstrip, but dang, looks like it might be a 10 second car! Thanks again Byron for posting my pictures. I am sorry none of my pics have any really cool history like many others on your website, but I just wasn't around at the time. However you have renewed my vigor to start taking some more pics and finding out some more info on these gassers, as you can see my pics aren't the greatest of quality, but i have a better digital camera now. Wow, my pics made GasserMadness.com! Dang i kinda feel like a celebrity now. By the way, to anyone out there, we need some more pics of the Big Al chopped 34 ford sedan that was Allison aircraft powered, that car is sooooo cool!!
