~ Byron's Gasser Madness! ~
~ Photos by Brad Horner ~

Brad Horner, of Cherry Hill, NJ, sent a number of photos he took back
in 1970-71 at Atco Dragway, Atco, NJ. A couple of the cars are VERY
well known (KS Pittman & Ed Hildebrandt) and the others are, maybe, a
little less well known. Those of you on the "Right Coast"
may recognize some of these cars. If you do, don't be shy. Let
us know who they are.
Thank you Brad. Byron |

This photo is of Ed Hildebrandt's Chevy
coupe, which I believe was hemi-powered. According to my 1970 NHRA
Northeast Division One Annual, he was from Collegeville, Pennsylvania. I
regret that I only have a picture of that car on a trailer, it was one of
the more popular of the local entries. The Division One annual shows the
car finishing a run with the chute open, and mentions that it ran in
C/Altered.
The Ed Hildebrandt car is owned by ECG member Sonny Barry of Marlton, NJ. He is going to restore it and race with the group also. Jack Olcott |

Atco Dragway, Atco, New Jersey. The K.S.Pittman photo was taken during what was described as the car's "farewell tour" before being put in the Garlits museum. This was a few years ago, I'm not sure exactly when. |

The Brad Horner pic of the orange 33 Willys with the "Crazy 8" on the grille panel is now owned by ECG member Jim Blewitt of Slatington,Pa. The car was tuned by Joe Pirrone in it's early outings and ran almost exclusively at Atco, NJ. Jack Olcott Atco Dragway, Atco, New Jersey, around 1970-1971 |

Attached are two street roadster photos from the Atco Dragway, taken around
1970. I don't know how famous either of them were, but I thought you might as
well see them anyway.
Nice site! While looking through I saw in Brad
Horner's pictures unidentified shots of street roadsters. |
