The Gateway Gasser Gathering

3-6 June 1999

I thought it was about time to redo this page.  Those who went to the deal in St. Louis had more fun than is usually considered legal!  Well, it looks like they're going to try it again...at Thompson Dragway in Ohio this time.  So if you aren't planning anything else then plan on being there on the 1st and 2nd of June, 2002.  If you are planning on something else...change your plans!

As much as I wanted to go, I was unable to attend this once in a lifetime event. I was there in spirit (and in one other way as you'll see in the pictures), and a number of people I am proud to call my friends were there too. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did. Since I wasn't really there, and I don't know a lot about most of the cars, I'm going to do these pages a little differently than I usually do. All I'm going to do is put up the pictures that Rob Stuart (http://www.austinworks.com) and Barry Kashar sent to me. You're going to see cars and faces all mixed together. There's a bunch of pictures on each page, so it will take quite a while to download, but I think you'll enjoy them. I know I did.

I also wanted to take a moment here to thank Barb and Greg Dummer of the Mid-America Willys Club for the immense effort and expense involved in putting an event like this out there for all the Gasser fans in the country. They definitely did it for the love of it...they sure didn't do it to make money!!

You know how it works by now...click on the little picture to view a large one.

Here's "me" with one of my many faceless fans. This would probably be a good time to mention that these "fans" were a total surprise to me, and had me ROFLMAO when I saw the pictures! My thanks to Barry Kashar (I think) for this scheme. The actual perpetrators in the picture above are Tim Burns and Rob Stuart. Thanks guys...it was definitely the next best thing to being there.

Nice lookin' 33 pickup
On the left is Rob Stuart of The Austinworks, on the right is "Big John" Mazmanian, one of the legends who needs no introduction to gasser fans. I wasn't sure who was in the middle, so I asked Rob. "That's Steve Cregut of Topeka, KS Owner of the COUNTRY RAT Anglia. Also brought LIL' CRITTER Anglia and a Prefect to the GGG. Would have brought their Austin 2 door Race Car (another shameless plug) but new axles were wrong size!! Steve showed me a picture of the Austin racing the COUNTRY RAT and winning (think he was trying to humor me). Cheers, Rob http://www.austinworks.com
Steve Castelli's "Hot Rod Willys"...yes it is the car from the movie.

More cars and action from the Gasser Gathering

Tommy Thompson (aka "JR's kid") was driving the "Super Mouse" Anglia.

"Big John" Mazmanian and Gas-FX member, Rocky Pirrone.

Rocky Pirrone's gorgeous new Willys. "Big Time Memories".  Yeah!

Cool Pickup!

Here's "me" with Joyce. I hope Dave McCauley doesn't see this!

Here's "me" again. I had to ask Rob who I had my arm around here. "That's Tami Donaldson of Washington, IN Wife of Dave Donaldson. This lady is Funny! That guy on the left certainly is good-looking?? Cheers, Rob http://www.austinworks.com"
Here's Reid Dahlin's '41 Willys

Here's Bob and Donna Clayton's "Rat Infested II" 33 Willys vs. Reid Dahlin's '41 Willys. Pretty Classic looking matchup, huh?

The next several pictures are of Bob and Donna's 33 with more of Reid's '41.

Thought I'd stop and have a drink!
The aforementioned "Country Rat" and "Lil Critter" of Steve Cregut. Nice pair Steve.
Barry Kashar.  Thanks for the photos, amigo.
Dave Donaldson (You met Tami earlier), KS Pittman, Rocky Pirrone, and "Big John" Mazmanian.
Here's was another surprise. Rocky had a nice banner made up which currently resides in a prominent position in my computer room. Look for it at meets wherever Gassers are running. Thanks Rocky.

Nice glasswork, huh?
